Welcome to Age Concern Enfield

Working with and for all older people in the London Borough of Enfield.

About us

Age Concern Enfield is part of the federation of Age Concern, which is the UK’s largest organisation for and with people over the age of 50 regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, sexuality, religion or background.

We believe that ageing is a normal part of life, and that later life should be fulfilling, enjoyable and productive. We enable older people by providing services and activities, researching their needs and opinions, influencing government and media, and through other innovative and dynamic projects. Everyday Age Concern Enfield is in touch with a large number of older people within the London Borough of Enfield, enabling them to make more of life.

We currently have more than 220 volunteers supporting our work throughout the borough.

Partnerships

Age Concern Enfield works in partnership with a range of voluntary and statutory organisations, and local businesses, to improve the quality of life of people aged 50+ and their carers. It employs more than 70 staff supported by the more than 220 volunteers. It is governed by an Executive Committee, members of which are themselves volunteers. They delegate the running of the organisation to the Chief Executive.

Funding comes from a number of sources including the London Borough of Enfield, National Lottery and Enfield Primary Care NHS Trust. In addition, we raise funds ourselves, including from commission generated by the sale of insurance products and holidays. We constantly seek new funding and support from other organisations within the Borough in order to develop our work with older people.

Our volunteers and staff are expected to treat all older people and anyone else involved with the organisation with respect and without discrimination in accordance with our equal opportunity principles. Our volunteer induction training provides further information on this.

Local - and national

Inaugurated in 1985, Age Concern Enfield is an independent charity as well as part of the national federation of Age Concern, which has more than 400 local groups and organisations. Each local Age Concern is an independent charity which can raise funds and work by itself or with others to raise funds, provide services or campaign. Age Concern England represents the federation, and speaks up for older people at a national level.

Because Age Concern Enfield is local, we can react quickly and work with local government to ensure that the needs of our older people are met.  But, as part of the national federation, it can also tap into the vast reservoir of information at a national level.

Our work is actively supported by local TV actress, Lindsey Coulsen.

Following on from a person experience which involved her late grandmother, Lindsey started working with Age Concern Enfield in the Autumn of 2003.  Since then she has helped the charity to fund raise within the local community and supports as many PR events as possible, which assist us with raising our profile.  As a local person herself, Lindsey is very much intune with the issues facing the 50+ and is passionate about the needs of older.

In the summer of 2007 Lindsey became Patron of Age Concern Enfield.
